Theatre Arts

ArtQuest Theatre Arts is designed for students who have already designated drama as their special interest and want to spend the bulk of their school day studying this specialty. Entry requires a successful audition and interview. The goal of this program is to prepare students—from the outset—for entry into professional or university training schools in this specialty.

This program requires: participation in various exercises and rehearsal processes, self–motivation and discipline, quick line memorization, reading and written analysis of scenes and plays, the desire to share (and apply) personal experiences from one's own life, the willingness to risk one's own self–image, and mainly it requires the ability to participate as a member of an acting ensemble dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in dramatic art while testing one's limitations or fears in the process.

ARTQUEST DRAMA 1–2 Students will be able to identify, apply, synthesize, and analyze in detail all major aspects needed for the creation of believable characters in a theatrical performance, including style and genre. The culmination of this study is actual performance—performances which, upon completion, could be judged superior in nuance, skill, technical ability, poise, and emotional and intellectual depth to what might be expected of an average drama student. ARTQUEST DRAMA 3–4 This is the intermediate class which is, again, a conservatory, process–oriented environment. The training focuses on the voice and exploration of actor/character through psychophysical exercises, music, and visual art. The theater content is from Shakespeare and includes the detailed analysis of scripts. ARTQUEST DRAMA 5–6 Advanced ArtQuest Drama Workshop is designed for the third and fourth year drama student who has acquired a high level (university level) of skills in commitment, responsibility, flexibility, text analysis, text application, voice, action choice, and development of inner life and creative imagination. The material is chosen from one of the following areas:
	•	Shakespeare and Restoration
	•	Ibsen, Chekov, Shaw and Wilde
	•	Contemporary or Alternative Theatrical Genres and Post–Modern Realism
Production Class is designed for the advanced ArtQuest Drama student. Some past productions include: Rhinoceros, Quilters, Strawberry Fields, The Rimers of Eldritch, Dancing at Lughnasa, Our Countrys Good, 1776, Three Sisters, A Woman of No Importance, Mad Forest, A Bright Room Called Day, Much Ado About Nothing, The Sea Gull, Midsummer Nights Dream, The Bacchae of Euripides, and Pride and Prejudice.
