There is no slowing down for us! Our Spring Semester is as invigorating and full as the fall was. In just the six weeks since we have returned from winter break, we have accomplished some amazing things!
ArtQuest Theatre participated in the Lenaea Festival Fand brought home 10 awards in different categories, including costume design, monologues and original scripts. They also won Gold for their One-Act Play. An original play created by the theatre students specifically in response to recent District events, and we are incredibly proud that it received the highest ranking possible. They took home The Synergy Award for the second year in a row. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding teamwork and positivity backstage. Only three schools receive this honor each year. And, ArtQuest Theatre took home The Spirit of Lenaea Award. This is the most prestigious award given at the festival, usually awarded to a single individual who has overcome significant challenges in pursuit of the arts. This year, in a deeply moving decision, the award was given to all ArtQuest students who attended the festival. It was a profoundly emotional momente are incredibly proud of our students for their resilience, creativity, and commitment to the arts. They represented themselves, their teachers and ArtQuest well
We also had 8 Choir students and 1 Instrumental student represent SRHS and AQ at the annual Northern California Band & Choir Directors Association Honor Weekend at Chico State University. They participated in an intensive multi-day workshop and rehearsals with guest conductors before performing as cohesive ensembles with honor students from all over Northern California. We had students recognized with scholarships for their outstanding work at the end of the weekend.
The Digital Arts, Photography and Visual Fine Arts and AP Art students submit works annually to The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. This National Program is a juried program that recognizes visual artists and writers while they are in high school. ArtQuest had 20 Regional winners this year, taking home 28 awards. Our five Regional Gold Key Winners will now have their works entered into the National Competition. Stay tuned for the outcome!
With so much more to come, we will keep you up-to-date on everything we are doing.
In the meantime, here is a great article written about the Lenaea Festival experience.

December 20, 2024It has been a whirlwind of a semester! Two new directors took on the role while still teaching in the program, we celebrated SRHS's 150th birthday, generated lots of interest and excitement around the new AQ workshops and the shadowing program, rolled out a new and stream-lined application process and we did it all while the world around us tilted and spun and tumbled!
Our classes continued to do what they do best: create and challenge and thrive. We made headlines, stood up for what we believe in, performed all over the county, and experienced the AQ 24/25 interdisciplinary theme, Be Outrageous, come to life!
As the calendar year comes to a close and we put the Fall Semester behind us, we want to take the opportunity to thank our community, parents, students and supporters. We are so grateful for you.
Happy Holidays,
The ArtQuest Team
